As a thoughtful reader, we must always look for connections.  Today you are going to be the connector.  Your job is to connect the day's reading to another book or story you have read.  You will also connect the reading to a current event, historical event, or something we are studying in any subject area.  It is also okay to connect it to your own life.  Just make sure you have at least 2 connections.  Don't forget to respond to someone else. :)

  1. I can connect the great brain to my life by me selling popsicles at my nana's house for 1$ when it was free for me and I did not get caught.I can also relate this story to another book by, this boy being in high school and he didn't have any money so he stole from a store and he sold snacks at school for 5$ and made 20$ a day.

  2. The back of book,Freedom Crossing, is related to when Rosa Parks built the Underground Railroad.Because Rosa Parks and the characters in our book both planned to bring the slaves north to Canada, even if it meant braking the law.

  4. My book is How To Eat A Fried worm.A connection to my book is Life.I say life because Billy made a bet with his friend that his friends will give him 50 dollars if Billy eats 15 worms. Its is compared to my life because I do bets with my friends and brothers too.One time my friend told me if I lick a wall He will give me 1 dollar. He told me to do it because the wall was rusty. My second connection is the book Frindle.I pick the book Frindle because Nick was brave like Billy.Nick was brave like Billy because Nick wasn't scared of anything and Billy wasn't too because Billy ate 15 worms and he was not scared and was a man.

  5. In my book The Great Brain I have two things to connect it to. One John wants to catch the mumps because his brothers always catch a disease first, their mom makes them get the two that do not have the disease get infected, and by the time they get infected the one who had the disease first is better. So John wants to get a disease first, which makes me think of my mom because when she was growing up it was {and still is} extremely rare to get the chicken pox twice so when someone got it everyone went to their house to get it. Second the book takes place when indoor toilets were very rare and their father orders one, so they are the first people in town to have one.

  10. The book i'm reading is called How to Eat Fried Worms. My connection to this book is from my life because, my sister also dared me to do something, she dared me to lick my dog, and i did. And Billy got dared from his friend to eat 15 worms. Also my other connection that relates to this book is from another book I have read. It's called Odette's Secrets Its about a girl who is in a tough time because shes a jew and right now its bad to be a jew because of the nazi's so she has to be brave, just like Billy is being brave because he could have chickened out so he wouldn't have to eat the worms. But he didn't and ate the worms.

  15. In our book we have two main character is Poppy and Mr.Ocax.Poppy is a brown and white mouse that is very shy.She is not very happy in this chapter because her best friend had just died in the first chapter.Poppy's nose had gotten scratched after Mr.Ocax was trying to eat her.Even though Poppy is very scared and confused now,I am sure she will find her way.the last main character in the book is Mr.Ocax. Mr.Ocax is a very tricky character in this book.He is a big bird with white and black feathers. He is very slick because he tricks the mice saying,"If you let me be your ruler I will protect you from danger." But he really wants to eat them when they are not expecting it. But hopefully at the end the horned owl Mr.Ocax and the deer mouse Poppy will become friend at the end of the book.

  17. In our book Poppy, I made a connection with Poppy and Poppy's mother.I made the connection because Poppy's mother said "Above all, do exactly what your father tells you to do." and it reminds me of my mom telling me to listen to your elders. My second connection is how Lungwort said "If Ragweed's death can be a lesson to the rest of the family..." reminds me how all of my teachers told me to learn from other's mistakes and your own mistakes.

  19. I am going to connect The Great Brain to the Gabby Douglas movie and also to history. The way I am going to connect this to history is Papa buying the first flush toilet. The way I will connect this to a movie is the two main characters both used their talents like Gabby Douglas used her gymnastics talent and the Great Brain use his smartness. Those are the two ways I connected the Great Brain to something else.
